for the big show in new york city, the 86th annual macy's parade in new york city. kicking off at 6:00 this morning. you are looking at a live picture with hello kitty balloon they also have papa smurf, all the rest are inflated and standing by so are the crowds. this year's line-up features 16 character balloons, 40 novelty balloons, 28 floats, 1600 cheerleaders, 900 clowns and 11 marching bands, including one from the bay area. the big headliner santa. you laugh. >> i like the way you do this. >> i feel like i'm going to sing this. the city gave away 5,000 bleacher seats to families hit hard by superstorm sandy. the south bay's own marching band and color guard is performing. last year it was one of the 11 bands in the country chosen. the music department had to raise nearly $150,000 for the trip. eve of the families had to pay $2,000 to cover flight, rooms, meals and transportation, that's a lot of commitment we wish them a lot of luck and fun. >> once in a lifetime opportunity, had to do it. >>> this year, thursday, today is the new black friday for some shoppers, a lot of store
with the new jersey voters. we knew it played with new york city voters, a full 89% approved of governor christie's performance but new york city as anyone who lives there would be so happy to tell you is not new jersey. so i hope you enjoyed the segment, but to be honest, it was a bit of guesswork on our part, a theory, a hypothesis. if i were to give it a grade, it would have to be incomplete. tonight i can complete at least part of that segment. today a national research poll of new jersey voters found christie's approval is at a record high. governor christie's approval rating between 50 and 59% for three years in office. national research said. now 77% of new jersey voters approve of governor christie. that's a 21-point increase from a poll conducted a month ago. 94% approve of governor christie's handling of the hurricane sandy recovery effort. 91% of the approve of the way the governor and president obama worked together in the aftermath of the storm, and that poll by the way not alone. a rutgers poll that came out found christie's favorability at 67%. up 19 percentage points, 19

in far rockaway in queens, new york city. so, anna, how are they celebrating thanksgiving in that community? >> reporter: well, heather, the same way they do every year. this is the 19th year that rock and wrap it up has been here at the first congregational church here in queens, new york, but it looks very different this year. in fact, superstorm sandy even devastated this church. their basement was flooded out x they're running this meal operation with no power, so it's a little chilly for folks as well. their going to be serving about a thousand meals today, normally it's about 600. and the new york giants are underwriting this today. the outreach, they say, is not just about the food, it's also therapeutic for sandy victims to talk to one another and the volunteers. >> they leave here, they've had their bellies full, but they've also been able to share experiences and people are here to listen. >> reporter: and, health e the church also has a supply station that we're told has been serving between 70 and 100 people a day since election day. heather: anna, are a lot of
